Piano Improvisation
Since age five, Rory's favorite hobby has been spontaneously making up music on the piano. What comes out is often classically-inspired while also incorporating jazz harmonies, melodies from pop songs, or influences from whatever music has been running through his mind recently.
He now studies classical piano and organ improvisation with Ethan Haman and John Paul McGee. In Spring 2026, he plans to give a senior thesis classical piano improvisation recital, in which he is tasked with improvising in Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary styles based off of themes given to him just 24 hours in advance.
